Carl F. Benner 1916
The Carl F. Benner 1916 (d) Memorial Scholarship Fund was established through a contribution made by Caroline Bretschneider Benner in honor of her late husband. Mr. Benner, an active member of the Sigma Nu fraternity, received his B.S. degree in electrical engineering from Case School of Applied Science. Upon graduation, Mr. Benner was employed by Willard Storage Battery Company. During WWII, he served in the U.S. Navy’s Ship Drafting Department. Mr. Benner was actively involved in the Euclid Avenue Association, acting as secretary of the organization for nine years. Mr. Benner was among the first engineering students to enter the journalism field and from 1928 until 1958, he was chief technical writer and editor with Huebner Publications. After his retirement in 1958, he wrote technical articles and produced publications for the Whitmore Manufacturing Company until his second retirement in 1971.
