Claude B. Sharer

Coach Claude Sharer (d) was an acclaimed athlete himself; earning letters in football, basketball and track while an undergraduate at Denison University and Ohio Northern University. In 1927, Mr. Sharer joined the staff of Case School of Applied Science and remained with the university 41 years during which time he had a great impact on the athletic program at Case. He was instrumental in the development of college-level wrestling in Ohio. In addition, Coach Sharer was responsible for organizing northeastern Ohio’s Coaches and Officials Association, which represented both area high school and college athletic staff. The Claude B. Sharer Scholarship Fund was established in 1979 by the Case Alumni Association to honor Case’s first wrestling coach and outstanding physical education instructor.
