Domenic Nero

Domenic Nero

The Domenic Nero Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 1982 in honor and memory of one of Greater Cleveland’s leading construction contractors and community developers. Mr. Nero was born in Baranell, Italy, in 1887. He immigrated to the United States at the turn of the century and began working in the construction field. In 1932, Mr. Nero formed his own construction company and met with much success as a community developer. He retired from active management of the company in 1965, but continued as a consultant in land development and home construction. A self-educated construction engineer, he made significant contributions to the Cleveland infrastructure over five decades. Edythe Nero Mendolia, Mr. Nero’s daughter, was married to Arthur Mendolia ’41. He passed away in 2007. He was chairman of the board of Cas Chemical Incorporated and former vice president of both Cambrex Corporation and DuPont, in addition to once serving as an Assistant Secretary of Defense.
