Harry E. Metcalf 1906
The Harry E. Metcalf 1906 Scholarship Fund was established in 1974 by Mr. and Mrs. Harry E. Metcalf ‘06 in appreciation of the years of service provided by the Case Alumni Association and in honor of Mr. Metcalf’s alma mater. Mr. Metcalf, an active member of Phi Delta Theta, graduated with a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering in 1906. Upon graduation, Metcalf joined Ingersol-Rand Company in Easton, Pennsylvania, as a sales apprentice. A talented employee, Mr. Metcalf received successive promotions and a variety of important assignments. He left Ingersol-Rand in 1911 and became vice president and treasurer of Draeger Oxygen Apparatus Company. In the next few years, Metcalf became affiliated with several businesses including Rush Chemical Company and W.R. Grace Company, who established him in the South American industrial machinery markets. His expertise led to many prestigious U.S. Government contracts. Metcalf, a WWI and WWII veteran, retired to his New Jersey home and dairy farm following his tour of duty in WWII. Mr. Metcalf, a great leader in international business and industry and a tremendous contributor to the direction of American engineering and technology, died in 1980.
