Helen and Neil J. Ranney '34
The Helen and Neil J. Ranney ‘34 Scholarship Fund was established in 1993 as part of the $30 million “Case Promise” campaign. Mr. Ranney, an active collegian singing in Glee Club, writing for Case Tech, the Differential and Alumnus, as well as several honorary societies, graduated from Case School of Applied Science in 1934 with a degree in electrical engineering. In his early professional career, Mr. Ranney was employed by the Cleveland-based Ferro Corporation as well as serving as director of engineering and purchasing for the Wean Equipment Corporation. In 1955, Mr. Ranney and a handful of his colleagues in the engineering industry founded Production Machinery Corporation. The corporation’s success was great and they soon became one of the world’s leading suppliers of steel mill machinery and equipment. Mr. Ranney was a lieutenant in the United States Navy and actively served in the Pacific Theatre of World War II. In addition, Mr. Ranney’s notable accomplishments were serving terms as both councilman and mayor of Kirtland Hills, having lifetime membership to the Association of Iron and Steel Engineers, acting as a founding member of both the East Shore Unitarian Church as well as of Lakeland Community College and receiving the esteemed Paul Hris Fellow award for his work on the Polio Plus project.
