Joseph J. Moore '34

The Joseph J. Moore ‘34 Scholarship Fund was established in 1992 by gifts of friends and family in memory of Mr. Moore. The intent is to provide undergraduate scholarships to rising juniors or seniors in the Case School of Engineering or those receiving a bachelor of science in applied science or mathematics from the College of Arts and Sciences. Moore, an active member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity, earned both a B.S. in mechanical engineering (1934) and a master’s degree in industrial management (1940) from Case School of Applied Science. Upon receiving his M.S. degree, Moore relocated to Philadelphia where he became a purchasing agent for Rohm & Haas Chemical Company and after eight years, he left to become a purchasing agent of the Cleveland-based A.G. McKee Co.’s, Union New Jersey, office. In 1950, Mr. Moore, a native Clevelander, came back to become a district sales manager for the G.O. Carlson Company, a manufacturer of steel plates. In 1953, Joe joined Viking Steel, a stainless steel distributor, and served as executive vice president from 1958 until the time of his retirement in 1982. In addition to his rich and varied background in industry, Moore enjoyed golf, the arts and travel. He was a member of the Northern Ohio Chapter of the Steel Service Center Institute, Rotary Club and The Cleveland International Program.
