Paul E. Westlake '45

The Paul E. Westlake ‘45 Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 1986 by Mr. Westlake’s family to remember his alma mater and to assist promising undergraduate engineering students at the Case School of Engineering. Under the V-12 Navy Program, Paul received his B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Case School of Applied Science. While an undergraduate, Westlake was an active member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity, played the position of guard on Coach Ride’s infamous Rough Riders football team and met his wife Kassie. Upon graduation, Mr. Westlake married and subsequently began study at Columbia University at the U.S. Midshipman School. He then served as a Navy Ensign during WWII. After his tour of duty, Mr. Westlake spent 31 successful years with General Electric Company at the Nela Park, Cleveland, plant. His experience in photometrics led to successive promotions and ultimately, the position of senior design engineer. Westlake’s expertise and renown made him the recipient of the coveted G.E. Corning Award in 1973 as well as recognition in 1983 from the Society of Automotive Engineers, of which he was a member.
