Phillip W. Gutmann '54, MS '58

Phillip W. Gutmann ‘54, MS ‘58 graduated from the Case Institute of Technology with a BS in Civil Engineering and an MS in Structural Engineering. In 1961, he joined Medusa Cement and remained with that company for 12 years in management capacities, including vice president of sales for the Atlantic Region and vice president of the manufacturing division. In 1966, Mr. Gutmann received an appointment to the United Nations to represent the U.S. in a world conference concerning Fly Ash as an international waste disposal problem. In 1973, Mr. Gutmann joined Marquette as vice president of operations and engineering and eventually became president of Marquette. Following a return to Medusa Cement in the early 1980’s, Mr. Gutmann retired in 1994 from the company as the executive vice president. The Phillip Wilson Gutmann ‘54 Scholarship Fund was established in 1993 to provide undergraduate support to students in Civil Engineering, Material Science & Engineering or Macro Molecular Science & Engineering.
