Richard Vanderhoof ‘39
Richard Vanderhoof ‘39 (d) majored in civil engineering at the Case School of Applied Science. The Opal J. and Richard A. Vanderhoof ‘39 Professorship Fund was established in 2016 to support the department of Civil Engineering. The Opal J. and Richard A. Vanderhoof ‘39 Scholarship Fund supports undergraduate students in the department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and the Vanderhoof Prize recognizes a top student in the department. In 2009, he received the CAA Meritorious Service Award for his work in establishing the structures lab in the Department of Civil Engineering. A retired Colonel in the USMC, Vanderhoof served with the Corps of Engineering in Cincinnati after WWII and worked for the Federal Water Pollution Control Administration as well as the EPA. In 1982, he retired from the Director of the Metropolitan Sewer District in Cincinnati.
